 Students prepared to save lives with mass CPR training during heart health week


During the Heart Health Week, a heart massage seminar was held by the students of the Public Relations and Publicity Program of Istanbul Gelişim Vocational School, with the slogan of "Don't Stop Even If the Heart Stops", and a cardiac massage simulation was held with the guests of the Survival Association.


In the seminar, where Hakan Demir, Secretary General of the Survive Association, was a speaker, it was contributed to raise the awareness of Istanbul Gelişim University students and staff on first aid and correct heart massage. At the seminar, Hakan Demir emphasized that a person whose heart stopped could breathe for three minutes after falling to the ground, and that in such a situation, 112 should be called immediately after a sudden collapse and CPR should be started within 30 seconds, even if he is breathing.
 
Before the project, Istanbul Gelişim University Public Relations and Responsibility Club students; By Melek Bulut, Yasemin Soycan, Yüksel Er, Duygu Ören, Esma Çikla, İhsan Arda Kuş, Aygül Özdemir, Hasan Yalçınkaya and Muhammed Ali Racing, according to the results of the survey conducted at the university under the leadership of  Public Relations and Social Responsibility Club Consultant Academician Assist. Prof. Emel Tozlu, Istanbul Gelisim Vocational School Head of Marketing and Advertising Department Lect. Fulya Beteş and Lect. Atilla Akalın, 39% of the respondents think that they are undecided about whether they have information about how to perform CPR correctly. 88% of the participants stated that they strongly agree with the idea that learning CPR is beneficial for society.
 
As a result of these findings encountered during the research phase, Survival Association performed "Collective Cardiac Massage" with students at Istanbul Gelişim University in order to raise awareness about what can be done in the case of sudden cardiac arrest. In the "Don't Stop Even If The Heart Stops" event seminar, the correct first aid intervention was demonstrated to the students with human models.
 
After the training, under the leadership of speaker Hakan Demir, the participants were asked to call 112, which are the first aid techniques that can be done in sudden cardiac arrest, to raise the head of the patient by 90 degrees, to ensure comfortable breathing, to perform Look-Listen-Feel, to determine the heart location with the double C movement and to perform cardiac massage.
 
Hakan Demir, General Secretary of the Survive Association, stated that he is very happy that an important subject such as correct CPR is among the social projects carried out by university students, and that he is very happy to be a guest in an event where the students have this awareness during the education stage and show such a professional approach.
 
Public Relations and Social Responsibility Club Counselor Assist. Prof. Emel Tozlu said, “After this training, our students will be able to bring these people back to life by first responding to many people in our society in case of need. With the support of Abdülkadir Gayretli, our Chairman of the Board of Trustees, we, as a club, drew attention to many important social issues this year. We are very happy that an important issue such as first aid and CPR was also addressed this year. We would like to thank the Survive Association for their participation in our project.” The event ended with the presentation of a plaque to Hakan Demir, Secretary General of the Survive Association, by Assist. Prof. Emel Tozlu.
