 Kahramanmaraş Centered Earthquakes

The earthquakes, the epicenter of which took place at 04.17 on February 6, in Kahramanmaraş, affected 10 provinces. Two devastating earthquakes with a magnitude of 7.7 and 7.6 in the Pazarcık and Elbistan districts of Kahramanmaraş caused devastating damage in ten provinces, primarily Hatay, Gaziantep, Adıyaman and Malatya. The earthquake, which stifled Turkey, had wide repercussions in the Turkish and world press.

Earthquakes with magnitudes of 7.7 and 7.6 occurred on the Eastern Anatolian fault line. This region, which is one of the three main lines together with the Aegean Region and North Anatolian fault lines in Turkey, is an active earthquake zone starting from the east of Turkey and extending to the south. Since the beginning of the 20th century, a large number of earthquakes with a magnitude of more than 6 have occurred in this region. We are still experiencing the most destructive dimension with the Kahramanmaraş earthquakes that took place on February 6th.

A state of emergency was declared in ten provinces affected by the earthquake. Many organizations, especially AFAD, continue their work in the region. Necessary materials are collected from every part of the country for the earthquake that stifled the Turkish people and sent to the region by trucks. It has shown that the people of the region are not alone by providing important benefits in the search and rescue efforts of our citizens who went to the region voluntarily.

Aid continues to come from many countries to our country, which was called internationally right after the earthquake. Search and rescue and medical support aid was sent from many countries such as the USA, Azerbaijan, United Arab Emirates, Bulgaria, Greece, Italy, Germany, Italy, Spain, England, Iraq, Israel, Qatar, France, India, Pakistan, Russia and Uzbekistan.

After the devastating earthquake, it was announced that seven days of national mourning was declared in the country. Our flag will be hoisted at half-mast until sunset on Sunday, February 12, 2023, in all our dormitories and foreign representative offices for seven days. Thanks to the whole country...
