“Hotel Casa”, designed by i29 in collaboration with the furniture company Lensvelt and textile designer Mae Engelgeer, transforms the social housing into a hotel seasonally. The building was built for students in Amsterdam in the 1950s.
Founded as a student initiative to solve the housing accessibility of students in the city, Casa continues to provide affordable housing to students by opening its doors to seasonal hotel guests. This allows for an inspiring mixed use.
The interior design of the rooms was done by i29 in partnership with Lensvelt and Mae Engelgeer. PET felt and textile-type materials that support acoustic comfort are used in the design, which is shaped around the idea of “Back to Home”. Comfort has been the center of space design. The hotel's newly designed rooms feature a desk with a table lamp, a bed suitable for storage, a hanging bedside table, a cushioned seating area in front of the window, a pantry and multifunctional walls.
Creating a unique concept in the hotel industry with the slogan "Forever Young", Casa has been offering housing and accommodation to hotel guests, students and residents for 65 years. The i29 has created a colorful and flexible design in accordance with this motto. Rooms can be easily personalized without adding or removing furniture, suitable for students and hotel guests. In addition, durability and efficient home maintenance were taken into account.
Since the scale of the project was appropriate, it was possible to develop lighting, furniture and textile products, and to make designs suitable for the identity of Casa. Special colors and patterns are used in floor coverings and curtains.
