Ara Güler Museum + Leica Showroom + Monochrome Brasserie

Ara Güler Museum + Leica Showroom + Monochrome Brasserie located in Galaport Istanbul was designed by Wangan Design.
Galataport, which was opened in October 2021, is a destination project located on the 1.2-kilometer coastline between Karaköy ferry port and Mimar Sinan Fine Arts Faculty Fındıklı Campus. Ara Güler Museum, which is part of the Doğuş Group, is among the most important venues of Galataport, which is aimed to be the new cultural center of Istanbul, the AGLM project created by Monochrome and Leica brands.
Wangan Design treated the project as an experience story and revealed a context through the common points of the brands. Instead of processing different functions separately in the spaces where a museum, cafe, and camera shop work together in an area of 435 square meters, they carried out the design through a common language.
The main mass, which includes the kitchen area of the Monochrome in the middle of the spaces, is covered with a three-dimensional pattern. On this main mass are the display units of the Leica brand and the exhibition boards of the Ara Güler Museum, and it becomes a dominant model both indoors and outdoors with the light plays created on the three-dimensional form with the pattern on the mass.
In the project, hard materials such as black and white tones, natural stone and metal were chosen in the area belonging to the Ara Güler Museum, while wood materials in amber and tones with warmer tones were preferred in the areas belonging to Monochrome. Thus, the studio succeeded in presenting the difference between nested spaces with an assertive and contrasting stance.
