 Unionization Status of Wage Workers in Turkey


The Communique of the Ministry of Labor and Social Security on the "July 2022 Statistics Regarding the Number of Workers in the Business Branches and the Members of the Unions in accordance with the Law on Trade Unions and Collective Bargaining Agreement No. 6356" was published in the Official Gazette.


According to the statistics for July 2022 prepared by the Ministry of Labor and Social Security, 2 million 280 thousand 285 out of 15 million 987 thousand 428 paid employees have union membership. While the Hizmet-İş Union ranked first among all labor unions with 252 thousand 612 members, the business line with the highest number of workers was "trade, office, education and fine arts" with 4 million 86 thousand 7 workers. Among the 20 business lines, other business lines with the highest number of workers were determined as "metal" with 1 million 865 thousand 713 workers and "construction" with 1 million 445 thousand 368 workers. According to the report, 2 million 280 thousand 285, which corresponds to 14.26 percent of 15 million 987 thousand 428 workers, are members of any labor union. Service-İş was followed by the Turkish Metal Union with 245 thousand 602 members and Öz Sağlık-İş with 193 thousand 829 members.
