South Korea-based Korea Electric Power Corp. It was reported by Dünya Newspaper for the first time that (KEPCO) company started negotiations in 2022 regarding the new nuclear power plant to be built in Turkey. According to the news, Cheong Seung-il, Chairman of the Board of KEPCO at that time, met with the Minister of Energy, Fatih Dönmez. According to the news on January 31, 2023, the South Korean administrator presented his proposal for the construction of four nuclear reactors in the northern part of Turkey.
The 5th Nuclear Power Plants Fair and the 9th Nuclear Power Plants Summit (NPPES) to be organized by the Ankara Chamber of Industry (ASO) and the Nuclear Industry Association (NSD) with the support of the Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources will take place in Istanbul on 21-22 June 2023. South Korean companies are expected to actively participate in the meetings.
In this meeting, which is the most comprehensive nuclear event in Africa and the Middle East, new nuclear technologies will be introduced and new job opportunities will be discussed. Ankara Chamber of Industry (ASO) President Seyit Ardıç said that the nuclear power plant construction processes still going on in Akkuyu will be one of the most important issues at the summit, while Nuclear Industry Association (NSD) President Alikaan Çiftçi is also the members of the South Korean Nuclear Association and the South Korean nuclear power plant this year. He stated that they expect a large audience consisting of suppliers and that these participants will hold meetings with local companies regarding new investments.
