 The Sultan of the Kitchen: Tear-Free Onion


A tear-free type of onion, which is indispensable for every meal, has been grown.


A compound called proponal-s oxide is released into the air when the onion is cut, causing tears in the eyes. One of the UK's leading retailers is launching tear-free onions. In this way, delicious meals can be made without tears. The onion, which is three times more expensive than a normal onion, is said to take 30 years to produce. Sunions, a brown, tearless and sweet onion variety, is expected to hit the shelves next week.
