Italy Bans Synthetic Food
In Italy, a draft law has been prepared that prohibits the use of synthetic foods, including artificial meat, the production of synthetic feed, and the marketing of these products. If the bill is approved, fines of up to 60 thousand euros can be imposed on those who do not comply with the law.
In Italy, the government led by Giorgia Meloni has prepared a bill to ban the production and marketing of synthetic foods. The council of ministers convened under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Meloni took important decisions and accepted the draft law banning the production and marketing of synthetic food and feed. He will submit the bill to the lower and upper house of parliament for approval to become law.
Drawing attention to the risk of social injustice with synthetic food because the rich are well-fed and the poor cannot be fed, Minister of Agriculture Francesco Lollobrigida stated that there is a strong desire for protection.
Health Minister Orazi Schillaci defended the bill they prepared, saying that there is no scientific study on the effects of synthetic foods. At the same time, he stated that with this draft law, citizens want to protect their health at the highest level. He also stated that they support the food-agricultural culture that supports the Mediterranean diet.
In addition, Prime Minister Meloni met with the members of the Italian Agricultural Association (Coldiretti) after the cabinet meeting. Members of the Agriculturalists' Association, who advocated and supported the ban on synthetic food, thanked Prime Minister Meloni.
In addition, the major partner of the government, the Party of the Brothers of Italy (FdI), has submitted a bill to the Senate that provides for various fines and prison sentences for people who promote eating disorders such as anorexia and bulimia on social media.
