“Structural Analysis of the Historical Çobançeşme Bridge”

Istanbul Gelisim University Gelişim Vocational School Construction Department Lecturer Ahmet Yavuz ŞAHİN's paper titled "Structural Analysis of the Historical Çobançeşme Bridge" was presented at the 1st International Conference on Trends in Advanced Research.
After the Great Anatolian Earthquakes, the expected Marmara Earthquake, which has been on the agenda in the written and visual media in the last few days, will undoubtedly affect Istanbul, which is an old city within the scope of building stocks. At the same time, Istanbul has a lot of cultural heritage as it is the capital of many civilizations.
Within the scope of the study, the structural analysis of Çobançeşme Bridge, one of the forgotten cultural heritages of Istanbul, was carried out. Today, Çobançeşme Bridge is not actively used as a result of the change of the stream bed of Ayamama Stream, but it is idle. The Çobançeşme Bridge, which was built by creating an arch form with cut stones, was modeled in the Sap2000 program with the finite element method and the internal forces, stress, and displacement values in the bridge were presented in tables in line with the analyses.
Since most of the load-bearing walls of the bridge are under the ground today, the elasticity modulus and the Poisson ratio were taken from the literature, since the cross-sectional properties of the bearing wall elements and the date value of the cut stone were found by the variation method during the modeling. With the restoration proposals in line with the damages that may occur on the modeled bridge, suggestions were made to the necessary institutions and organizations about the reuse of such idle cultural heritages in the scope of sustainable structures in cities such as Istanbul that have hosted many civilizations for centuries.
