TÜBİTAK BİLGEM researchers have developed an artificial intelligence against fraud attempts under the name of donations and aid made over social media after the recent earthquakes. This artificial intelligence can be used to detect fraudsters and protect the public from fraud victimization. The developed artificial intelligence can automatically analyze donation and aid requests on social media and identify untrustworthy messages and that may be useful to fraudsters. In this way, it is ensured that people are directed to the right platforms where they can donate with confidence. Institution researchers have developed a software called "Fraud Detection with Twitter Data Analysis" to detect fraud attempts on Twitter. This software scans tweets containing keywords such as AFAD, Kızılay, AKUT, and AHBAP and checks whether the IBANs in it belong to the relevant institutions. Account numbers without fundraising permission are marked as "suspicious" and shown to users. The system was made available to the Information Technologies and Communications Authority (BTK) and other relevant institutions. İlknur Dönmez, who works as an expert researcher at TÜBİTAK BİLGEM, stated that it was revealed that some malicious people used the name of aid organizations on social media and demanded that people deposit money into their account numbers. Fatih Dönmez, Minister of Energy and Natural Resources, asked TÜBİTAK to make a program to prevent these attempts. Upon this request, Dönmez started to work by forming a team to identify Twitter shares containing IBANs that do not belong to official institutions by using keywords. A team of 11 people worked day and night, completing, and delivering the program in two days. The Information Technologies and Communications Authority (BTK), which checks the tweets that are open to external access via a web service and marked as suspicious, takes the necessary actions.
