More than 300 Flights Canceled at Dusseldorf and Cologne Bonn Airports Due to the 24-Hour Strike Started by Public Employees in the German State of North Rhine-Westphalia
The wave of strikes continues in Germany. More than 300 flights were canceled due to the 24-hour strike by the Verdi union in the state of North Rhine-Westphalia. Düsseldorf Airport officials said that 205 of the 330 flights planned due to the strike were canceled and 29 were diverted to other airports. Cologne Bonn Airport officials reported that 131 of 136 passenger flights were canceled as of last night. In the announcement made by the Verdi Union, it was announced that several protest demonstrations were planned to be held during the day along with the strikes.
The labor union Verdi is demanding a raise on behalf of public sector employees, airport ground handling workers as well as security guards, as their salaries are very insufficient in the face of rising living costs. While the union demanded a 10.5 percent, or a minimum of 500 euro, raise for employees, no progress has been made in the negotiations between the two parties so far.
The Number of Aircraft in the Fleet of Turkish Airlines (THY) Reached 400
THY Chairman of the Board and Executive Committee Prof. Dr. Ahmet Bolat reported on his personal social media account that the number of aircraft in the company's fleet has reached 400. Announcing that they will hold a privileged event for the 400th plane on Saturday, March 4, Bolat also stated that they are waiting for a proposal for the name of the plane.
Here is Bolat's entire post on the subject:
“As of this week, our 400th aircraft has been added to our fleet. Painting will be done at our Turkish Technic facilities at Atatürk Airport. Like all our other aircraft, we wish you safe flights and good and fruitful earnings. We are planning to organize a beautiful and at the same time meaningful organization on Saturday, March 4, regarding this aircraft. There is something I would like to get your opinion on. This is the name to be put on the plane. As Turkish Airlines, our classic is to put the names of our cities and districts on our planes. So far, we have put the names of all our cities and major districts on our planes. We want our plane to come together as One Heart after the earthquake, to repair the wounds in a short time and to have a district name that symbolizes stronger and more beautiful new settlements and earthquake victims. This county name does not need to exist now. This will be the name of one of our districts to be re-established. I look forward to your suggestions.”
