It didn't snow, half term holiday preferences changed

It is stated that holiday preferences are shifting to thermal facilities due to low snowfall. In addition to climate change, the low level of snowfall due to the drought that has been effective in the last period caused the preferences to change before the semester break.

According to a news report by Selanay Yağcı from Ekonomim, representatives of the tourism sector state that a ski holiday is no longer the first choice due to the same problem being experienced in popular ski resorts abroad and the high exchange rates. While reservations for the half term holiday, which will start on January 20 this year, have increased by 20%, the first choice of holidaymakers are destinations such as Afyon, Bursa and Ankara, which stand out with their thermal facilities, and towns that attract attention with their natural beauties such as Sapanca, Ağva and İğneada.
“Thermal facilities are popular in reservations”

Mehmet İşler, Vice President of the Turkish Hoteliers Federation (TÜROFED), said that the lack of snow in the favorite destinations of the snow holiday directed their half-term holiday preferences to thermal hotels. Jobs said some ski resorts are trying to create mobility with artificial snow. Stating that thermal facilities are very popular in reservations at the moment, İşler said, “Especially Afyonkarahisar has now become the center of thermal facilities and there is a significant flow of reservations. We see activity in Pamukkale, İzmir and Kızılcahamam, which also have thermal potential. With climate change, reservations have also changed,” he said. Stating that holiday plans are generally made for 5 days, İşler stated that there is a significant increase in semester reservations compared to the previous year.
“80% of reservations are from foreign tourists”

Emel Elik Bezaroğlu, Member of the Board of Directors who is Elite World Hotels&Resorts Sales and Marketing Responsible, stated that the highest occupancy rate during the semester break is at the Elite World Grand Sapanca hotel. Stating that 80 percent of the reservations come from foreign tourists, Elik Bezaroğlu added that there has been an upward trend as of February.

“We expect high occupancy rates in late January and early February”

Stating that the half term holiday is the most active period of the winter months, NG Hotels Chairman of the Board of Directors Gift Güral Gür said, “Until recently, when winter tourism was mentioned, ski facilities always came to mind. However, in recent years, thermal, cultural and nature tourism has also increased its share from winter tourism. We are currently expecting high occupancy rates in Sapanca and Afyon at the end of January and the beginning of February.”
