Hotels in Earthquake Zones Also Collapsed
Turkey woke up to the winter day with the news of a sad disaster. It is stated that hundreds of buildings were destroyed in the earthquake with the epicenter of Kahramanmaraş with a magnitude of 7.4, and many citizens were under the collapse.
According to reports from the regions, hotels in Malatya and Adıyaman were destroyed. According to the information obtained, Avşar Hotel with a capacity of 135 rooms in Malatya and Isias Hotel in Adıyaman were destroyed in the earthquake.
In the social media posts, it is stated that there are people in the wreckage of both hotels.
Two more hotels are reported to have been demolished.
According to some unconfirmed information, hotels in Hatay and Kahramanmaraş were demolished. There are reports that Güney Hotel in Hatay-Antakya and Kazancı Hotel in Kahramanmaraş were also destroyed in the earthquake.
Additional flights from Turkish Airlines to earthquake zones
An announcement has been made that Turkish Airlines (THY) will organize additional flights to the earthquake zone. Making a statement on the subject on his social media account, THY Press Advisor Yahya Üstün said, “We are preparing additional flights on behalf of our citizens who want to quickly transfer aid teams to the region and meet their loved ones at the same time. We give free cancellation/change right on behalf of our guests who have flights to the regions affected by the earthquake.
Long queues of vehicles formed in city centers. Due to the earthquake, some buildings were destroyed in Kahramanmaraş, Kilis, Diyarbakır, Adana, Osmaniye, Gaziantep, Malatya and Hatay.
Crisis desks were set up under the coordination of governorships in the region where tremors were felt from time to time.
Şanlıurfa Mayor Zeynel Abidin Beyazgül stated that 16 buildings were destroyed in the city, while Governor Salih Ayhan stated that the death toll was 15.
International call for help
While the level of the earthquake was declared as Level 4 within the scope of the Turkey Disaster Response Plan, international assistance was called for in the field of urban search and rescue through the ERCC during the meetings with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Osmaniye Governor Erdinç Yılmaz said that 34 buildings were destroyed in the city, five people lost their lives, and rescue efforts are still ongoing.
Adana Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Zeydan Karalar stated that two buildings with 14 and 17 floors had been demolished, and that the traffic was very busy and locked and aid could not come for this reason.
