One of the biggest competitors of the Tesla brand in the Turkish market is expected to be the 'Turkey's car' Togg, which will go on sale in March.
Tesla, which had suspended its investments in Turkey for a long time due to additional taxes on imported vehicles from the United States, started to attack again in this market in the first quarter of this year and established Tesla Motors A.Ş.. Kemal Geçer, who served as the Turkey-Iraq CEO of the German airline Lufthansa for many years, was appointed as the head of the Turkish team. It was not known when Tesla would be introduced to Turkey after this restructuring. The company's posting of job postings on its website last week was interpreted as Turkey's promotion approaching. According to the news of the Economy newspaper, it is planned to introduce Turkey in a few months, namely in the first quarter of 2023, and then start the sales process.
Turkey's car Togg will go on sale in March 2023. There will be no pre-orders in Tesla, as in Togg. Togg announced that it will be available for pre-order in February and will hit the roads in March. Sales at Tesla will begin with the launch. Sales will be made online for both brands.
Model Y from Berlin, Model 3 from Shanghai
In the first place, Tesla will enter the market with two new models. Model Y will come from the factory in Berlin, which started mass production this year to overcome additional tax barriers to the Far East and the USA. In this factory, there is a target of production of Tesla Model Y of five thousand weekly and two hundred and forty thousand annually. At the Shanghai Factory, the weekly production target of Model Y and Model 3 is twenty-two thousand units. Only Model 3 will be imported from Shanghai.
Togg, on the other hand, will produce 20,000 vehicles this year. In July 2022, an additional ten percent customs duty was imposed on electric vehicles to be imported from countries that are not bound by the Free Trade Agreement or the Customs Union agreement. Tesla's flagship Model 3 will also come to Turkey with an additional 20 percent tax from Shanghai. Due to the 60 percent additional tax imposed on vehicles imported from the USA, Tesla orders from this country to Turkey had already stopped in 2018. The Model 3 will have a range of up to 602 km, while the Togg C SUV will have a version that will go over 500 km.
