Hosted by Istanbul Gelisim University, Head of the Department of Audio Visual Techniques and Media Production, Lecturer. Assist. Neslihan Kültür, successful screenwriter and director Ahmet Toklu shared his professional experiences with future filmmakers.

On Thursday, October 25th, an interview was held on "Challenges and Gains of the Cinema Industry". Communication students who want to be the screenwriter and director of the future took their seats minutes before the event. The interview started with a presentation show in which Ahmet Toklu briefly introduced himself and explained his projects. Director Ahmet Toklu, who shared his sectoral experiences with the students, said "I tried to establish sectoral relations during my university education. I met many valuable directors. And as a result of these warm relationships I established, I had the opportunity to work on TV series and movie sets. Everything is possible in the cinema industry, there is nothing that will not happen, you need to work and persevere."

Who is Ahmet Toklu?
Director Ahmet Toklu was born in Istanbul on October 25, 1987. The young director, who graduated from Çanakkale 18 Mart University, Department of Cinema and Television, was selected as the "second best script" with his script titled "Confrontation" in the script competition titled "Cinema of the Future 6" organized jointly by the Ministry of Culture and TURSAK Foundation. With the financial support he received from the script support project, he had the opportunity to turn his script into a film. In 2011, Toklu was awarded the screenplay award for the second time with his project titled 'September's Return' in the 'Cinema of the Future 8' - 'September's Return' organized jointly by the Ministry of Culture and TURSAK Foundation, and is also the author of the film book 'A Tired Warrior Halit Refiğ' published by Sepya Publishing.

The interview, in which the difficulties and achievements of the cinema sector were discussed, continued with mutual questions and answers.

Student: As far as I observe, you use a simple language in your works. But you have also created films with a depth of subject matter, how did you achieve this?
The audience has perceptions and expectations that change every moment. When you don't follow the latest developments in the industry and make them applicable, you are pushed out of the game. There is a way of expression that has been around since Ancient Greece and this is an ongoing situation.  Cinema is a dependent art and in order to realize this, you need to be repetitive and most importantly, you need to be in demand.

Student: What do you think about the concepts of the educated and the illiterate?
I think it has to do with selectivity in perception. We all have opportunities, but it is directly proportional to what and how much we want to get from these opportunities. You can study at the best school in the world, but what have you learned? I think the important thing here is to make an effort.

In the interactive question and answer interview with cinema students, Head of the Department of Visual, Audio-Visual Techniques and Media Production, Lecturer. Assist. Neslihan Kültür thanked Ahmet Toklu for his valuable participation. The event ended after the souvenir photo taken.
