Oscar Nominees at Digiturk
The 2023 nominee films of the Oscar awards, which will be distributed for the 95th time this year, will meet with the audience on TOD and Digiturk, Turkey's new digital content platform. Digiturk members will be able to watch the blockbuster movie "Top Gun: Maverick" starring Tom Cruise as of February 12. The film was nominated for 6 categories, including Best Picture, Best Adapted Screenplay, Best Editing, Best Sound, Best Original Song and Best Visual Effects.
What is Oscar?
The Academy Awards, or the Oscars, as they are popularly known, are awards for artistic and technical achievements in the film industry. The awards are given annually by the California-based Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. The awards, which are given by the votes of the Academy members, are accepted as an international success indicator in the world of cinema. Although the official name of the statuette given to the award winners is the "Academy Award of Merit", the statuette is often referred to as the "Oscar". The figurine is a knight depicted in the art deco style.
The awards, which started to be given in Los Angeles in 1929, are distributed once a year, mostly at a ceremony held in February. The Academy's membership list of approximately 6,000 film professionals is kept confidential. Although most members are based in the United States, citizens of other eligible countries may also become members of the Academy. The 94th Academy Awards ceremony was held on March 22, 2022 at the Dolby Theater in Hollywood.
