10 percent of the works exhibited in museums meet with the audience. The remaining 90 percent is kept in warehouses. There are 504 museum types of archeology, ethnography, history, thematic, city, memorial museums and house museums of important and famous people. Yahya Coşkun, Deputy Director General of Cultural Heritage and Museums, stated that museums have an important place in transferring our cultural heritage to future generations. Artifacts are recorded in museums every year. These are determined sometimes by donation, sometimes by being excavated and by chance that the citizens find and report during the excavations. The number of recorded works in late 2020 is close to 3.5 million.
