Lecturer Assist. Simge Yılmaz and Assist. Assist. Ferit Arda Arıca jointly conducted "Comparative Discourse Analysis of News on Animals: Pandemic Period and the Aftermath of the Izmir Earthquake", the content about animals in online news environments in Turkey and the ways of presenting this content were analyzed.

The study, which has the hypothesis that changing social events affect attitudes towards animals that are the subject of the news and change people's perspective on animals and analyzed with Van Dijk's critical discourse analysis method, aims to compare the discourse differences in news about animals during the pandemic and after the Izmir earthquake. The animal-related content on internet news sites were analyzed under headings such as "news title", "news entry", "news photo", "main events" and "results".

As a result of the content analysis, it was observed that while animals were shown as an element of danger during the pandemic period, these negative attitudes evolved positively after the Izmir earthquake. The basis of this change was the news coverage of dogs, which have an important place especially in search and rescue operations.
