One of the Problems of the Digital World: Cyberbullying

Cyberbullying is a digital form of bullying. It includes a series of negative behaviors carried out to disturb other users through digital media. Negative and even criminal behaviors such as hurting the dignity of the victims, offending them, harassing them, threatening, mocking, harassing, damaging their reputation, sharing their private content, and hacking their social media accounts are considered as cyberbullying.

Cyberbullying is a situation that can happen to individuals of all ages. In addition, it is possible to say that it is common among children and young people. The existence of such behaviors among children and especially young adolescents is also characterized by the name of “peer bullying” in digital environments. On the other hand, cyberbullying can also be applied to children and young people by people with bad intentions. Even children and young people may not tell their parents about their grievances, for fear of being called a coward, being restricted by their parents, or fearing that something bad will happen.

Cyberbullying can occur even in seemingly innocent forms. In other words, a person may be bullied without even realizing that he or she is bullying. For example; let's assume that a collective photo is taken within a community of friends and a friend from this community shares the photo on social media accounts without the consent and approval of the others. Let it be thought that someone else in the photo was disturbed by this person's sharing and requested that the photo in question be removed. If the person sharing the photo does not remove the relevant photo, this situation is also considered cyberbullying.
