Lancet Health and Climate Change Report 2022

The annual report of the Lancet, one of the respected peer-reviewed journals in the field of medicine, examining the effects of climate change on human health, was published with the title "Lancet Health and Climate Change Countdown 2022: Human Health at the mercy of Fossil Fuels".

While excessive dependence on fossil fuels poses a serious threat to health worldwide, attention is drawn to the increase in food insecurity, epidemic disease risks and potential workforce losses. Health Hazards of Fossil Fuels
Carbon emissions increase as a result of fossil fuel use. Within the scope of the Paris Agreement, it is aimed to limit the annual temperature increase to 1.5 degrees. Decarbonization efforts are encouraged by governments and various international organizations.

It is planned to reduce greenhouse gas emissions with the transition to renewable energy sources (geothermal, solar, wind and hydroelectric). Regulatory and supervisory studies continue in order to prevent the harms of fossil fuel use on health on legal and political grounds.

Climate Crisis and Health Problems
When considered in terms of health, the energy crisis and the increasing cost of living as a result of the problems experienced in the global environment have increased the fossil fuel usage rates. Along with these effects, food insecurity, risk of epidemics, heat-related diseases and air pollution lead to an increased risk of death. The use of fossil fuels has negative effects on health and climate with increased air pollution and increased temperature.
