ILO Launches Initiative to Reduce Traffic Accidents in Apparel and Footwear Industry

According to OECD (Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development) data, it is recorded that 1.3 million people lose their lives and nearly 50 million people are injured in traffic every year around the world.

The ILO's Vision Zero Fund has started work to reduce deaths and injuries among workers in the apparel and footwear industry. Employees in related sectors experience high rates of traffic accidents all over the world. Among the objectives of the Target Zero Fund, it is aimed to investigate the causes of the high number of traffic accidents that employees in the ready-made clothing and footwear sectors are exposed to, to examine the effects of the accidents on the sectors, to reduce the accidents and to follow a standardized approach in this direction.
