An earthquake panel was held in Istanbul Bakırköy. In the panel named "Disaster Resistant City 17 August Commemoration Program", Prof. Dr. Naci Görür participated as a speaker. Making a presentation on 'Istanbul and Earthquake', Prof. Naci Görür warned about earthquakes to be experienced in Marmara and Istanbul.
Prof. Dr. Naci Görür expressed that instead of waiting for earthquake preparations, he should go down to the field and start preparations as soon as possible. He stated that Istanbul and our country have many projects on earthquakes, but they are still not prepared for earthquakes. Underlining that the preparations for the earthquake were made by the current government for the first time, Görür talked about the government's risk management policies. Continuing his words so that as long as our people don't die, Görür expressed his opinion on the issue of overcoming the problems with the Law to be enacted by the Turkish Grand National Assembly.
It was stated that earthquake studies should be continued in cooperation with the central government and municipalities and by involving the public. On the other hand, it was stated that seven of the dams in Istanbul are at earthquake risk, that is, seven of the 14 dams are in the earthquake-risk area. He emphasized that many chemical hazardous-explosive materials, including asbestos, should be disposed of as wastes will also be generated during the earthquake.
