 Drug Pollution in Rivers Threatens Health


In the study conducted by the research group of York University in England, it was concluded that waste drugs in rivers are harmful for global health.


The research is one of the largest studies in this field in terms of scope and has been analyzed by taking more than 1000 samples from more than 100 countries. Substances known as "active pharmaceutical ingredients" were detected in more than a quarter of the results obtained. In addition to substances such as paracetamol, caffeine, nicotine, epilepsy and diabetes drugs have also been found.

The lead author of the study, Dr. It was stated by Wilkinson that even state-of-the-art wastewater treatment plants cannot completely break down these harmful chemicals and prevent them from mixing into rivers.
