Researchers from Penn State University and the US Air Force have announced that they have designed a material capable of "thinking" using silicon, semiconductors and integrated circuits. "We've produced an engineering material that can simultaneously sense, think, and act on mechanical stress without the need for additional circuits to process such signals," said Ryan Harne, associate professor of mechanical engineering at Penn State. He made a statement. The work of the produced material was designed by taking the human brain as an example. The study on the material, which is expected to be used in many fields, has been published in the scientific journal Nature Electronics.
