According to Kamilo Melo, CEO of the biorobotics company KM-Robota, the Floating Robot was inspired by a bloodsucking jawless fish species with a 400 million year history. Known as the lamprey, this fish will serve as a model to help understand the structures of the spinal cord and the nervous system.
