 Decision Regarding Artificial Intelligence

An interesting decision recently regarding artificial intelligence (AI) comes from the European Union. In April 2021, the EU proposed new regulations to manage the use of artificial intelligence. The proposed regulations will be the first comprehensive set of AI laws in the world and aim to balance the benefits of AI with the need to protect the rights and freedoms of individuals.

Proposed regulations will prohibit the use of AI in a few specific areas, such as social scoring and certain types of biometric identification. They will also require high-risk AI applications, such as those used in healthcare or transportation, to undergo rigorous testing and surveillance before being used. In addition, regulations will require AI systems to be transparent and explainable so that individuals can understand how decisions are made.

This decision is interesting because it highlights the growing concern about the potential negative effects of AI, such as prejudice and discrimination, and the need to ensure that AI is used ethically and responsibly. The EU's proposed regulations could set a precedent for other countries to follow and help establish international standards for the use of artificial intelligence. However, discussions continue about the features of the regulations and how they will be implemented, and it is not yet seen how effective they will be in practice.
“Based on the Office's understanding of the generative AI technologies currently available, users do not exercise ultimate creative control over how such systems interpret prompts and produce material,” USCO said. It looks at whether the model's contributions to the work are the result of "mechanical reproduction" or whether they represent the author's "own" contributions. Current guidelines state that USCO "will not record work that is produced randomly or automatically by a machine or purely mechanical process without any creative input or intervention from a human author."
