It has been announced that the world's largest ship Icon of the Seas, which is under construction in Finland's Meyer Turku shipyard, will start trial voyages in June. The world's largest cruise ship is built for Royal Caribbean International at the Meyer Turku shipyard in Finland.
The port trials of the ship, which was transported from the dry dock where it was mounted on December 9, 2022, continue. For the Icon of the Seas, towards the end of 2023, with the progress of its construction, it is planned to move to the second phase of sea trials. Shipbuilding activities, which made significant progress with the start of the installation with the diesel power plant in March, are in the first sea tests phase.
In sea tests, all the features of the ship that cannot be tested while in port are tested. Sea tests of noise and vibration levels and all equipment of the ship such as propulsion equipment, main engines, power plant, thrusters, and fin balancers are carried out. Port tests, which take an important place in the construction stages of the ship, are important to determine whether each function is working or not.
The world's largest cruise ship, which is expected to be completed towards the end of 2023, is planned to be brought into service in January 2024, with a 7-day cruise from PortMiami to the Caribbean when the construction activities are completed. Steel cutting for the second of the Icon class cruise ships was carried out in February 2023. The second ship, which is expected to be delivered in 2025, is expected to be followed by the third ship of its class in 2026.
