Reflections of Recession in Turkish Ports

The Russia-Ukraine war, the changes in imports and exports, and the economic recession caused losses in transportation activities in the ports.

The Russia-Ukraine war, the changes in imports and exports, and the economic recession caused losses in transportation activities in the ports.
There is a decrease of up to 40 percent in transit container transportation. The loss in transit freight transportation accelerated as a result of the slowdown in the global economy with the Russia-Ukraine war. According to the September statistics of the General Directorate of Maritime Affairs, while the amount of cargo handled at Turkish ports was 45 million tons on an annual basis, there was a decrease of approximately 3 percent. The total export burden, on the other hand, decreased by 8 percent. General cargo and oil-weighted imported liquid cargoes were responsible for the cargo at the ports, and this was the factor limiting the contraction in the total amount of handling.
