 Maritime Carbon Tax Proposal

A report has been published by the "Reach Zero Coalition Group", formed by leading shipping companies and environmental NGOs to reduce carbon emissions in maritime transport, proposing a gradual introduction of a pricing of approximately $200 per tonne of carbon dioxide by 2050.

If the pricing in question is realized, it is expected to generate an income of 80 - 180 billion dollars worldwide by the mid-2030s, thereby creating resources for financing high-cost green fuels. It is expected that maritime transport will be completely decarbonised, with the taxation system to be implemented gradually starting in the 2020s. By 2050, it is stated in the report that it will be possible to create an industry that works only with net zero energy resources.
