After the fire, which was completely taken under control in Limakport, one of the important ports of the region, which was severely damaged by the fire in the earthquake, the aid activities carried out to the earthquake region by sea accelerated.
In the region where 22 ports are located, earthquake aid continues to arrive by sea. Apart from Limakport, aid continues to be provided in other ports without any problems. Container ships were unserviceable as a result of serious cracks in Limakport due to the earthquake. The first ships started to approach the Ro-Ro terminal, which was not affected by the fire, as of February 9.
While there were disruptions in road transportation to the earthquake area, 2 Ro-Ro ships approached the port and brought the aid materials, one ship to Limakport Port and the other to Yazıcı Port, with the fire under control. Maritime aids from TRNC and Istanbul to the earthquake area continue to be provided by Ro-Ro ships.
Due to its proximity to the city center, Limakport is the first choice of Ro-Ro ships for aid purposes. In case the fire broke out in the earthquake area in the first days, the ships considered the alternative of berthing at other ports. In addition to Limakport, Yazıcı, Assan and Torosport Ports in the region have the appropriate infrastructure for the berthing of Ro-Ro ships.
The ports of the Iskenderun region have the feature of being the region that has received the most port and infrastructure investments in the country in the last 20 years. While there are 22 ports in the region, there are also fuel storage terminals. It was learned that 2,000 containers were destroyed in the fire in Limakport.
