Construction work continues at Faw Port, which will become the largest port in the Middle East. It is aimed to have housing projects, 2 industrial zones and areas for tourism purposes around the large Faw Port, which is planned to have 90 berths. The port, which is under construction by the South Korean company DAEWOO, is planned to be completed in 2025.
Located in the Persian city of Iraq, the port is located on the Khor Abdullah Cape of the Persian Gulf. Faw Harbor is also located at the mouth of the gulf, where the Euphrates and Tigris Rivers meet before they spill into the sea. The port, which has a construction area of 54 square kilometers, is located between the breakwaters. Faw Port, which will have the title of being the largest port in the region, is expected to surpass the Jebel Ali port in Dubai, which has a capacity of 67 berths when it is completed. The port, which will play an important role in the transportation of goods from China, Japan and Europe to the region, is expected to facilitate commercial activities in the region.
In the project, the first phase of which is planned to be completed for 5 billion dollars, the construction of the breakwaters with a length of 16 kilometers to the west and 8 kilometers to the east has been completed. The 45-meter-wide and 52-kilometer highway connects to the port through an immersion tunnel. Faw Port will be connected to the country's old port, Um Kasr, through the Middle East's first "immersed tunnel". The construction of the "Dry Channel" corridor, which will open the Great Faw Port to the world via Turkey, is expected to begin soon.
