Confirmation Letter Crisis in Passages through the Straits

In line with the news in the media by the General Directorate of Maritime Affairs, it has been announced that 22 of the 26 vessels waiting have given the confirmation letter, while a confirmation letter is awaited for 4 vessels.
In the statement, it was stated that the ships that do not submit a confirmation letter cannot pass through the straits, and it was stated that it is not acceptable to use the high number of ships as a pressure factor on our country. Confirmation Letter Application
Shipowners are required to have P&I (Protection and Arrangement Insurance) to cover penalties and responsibilities related to situations that may harm third parties, the environment or the cargo during their operations. The opinions of the General Directorate of Maritime Affairs, on the other hand, are that in cases such as the insurance company's disruption of business in a possible accident or undesirable situations, the processes taking time, and the inability to take timely action, our country and our people may suffer first. In addition, there are statements made by the General Directorate of Maritime Affairs that the supply chain and logistics activities will have to be suspended as a result of the straits being closed during these processes, which may cause a global crisis. Application Start Date December 2022
As of 01/12/2022, it is requested to obtain a letter from the P&I insurance company of the ships carrying crude oil that will pass through our straits with full cargo, stating the ship's details, cargo and voyage, and stating that the P&I insurance will be valid and inclusive for this ship, voyage and cargo.
