The maritime conversations initiated by the İzmir Branch of the IMEAK Chamber of Shipping were discussed with the participants consisting of representatives of many companies operating in the sector and academicians, as well as the developments to be experienced in the maritime sector in 2023.

Pointing out that maritime transport will undergo a structural change in parallel with the developments in world trade, Yusuf ÖZTÜRK, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Izmir Branch of the IMEAK Chamber of Shipping, stated that Turkey can reach further in the field of maritime by catching up with technological, commercial and environmental developments. He also stated that the Turkish-flagged and Turkish-owned fleet grew by 30 percent in 2022 and reached 41 million Dwt as the 14th largest in the world, creating satisfaction for the country.
Speaking in the interview, Captain Murat Yılmazer talked about the impact of the economic crisis in the world on the maritime sector. He stated that the low level of growth of 3 percent in China, which is the world's production base, where the significant effects of the economic recession are observed, will also make its effects felt in the transportation sector. On the other hand, he stated that container freights have continued to decrease since July 2022.
Stating that countries such as Vietnam, Thailand, Indonesia and India will come to the fore against China in the new period, Yılmazer pointed out that the European Union and the USA have increased their subsidies to their manufacturers and that there has been a trend change in the long term. At the same time, he stated that the Mediterranean trade will come to the fore in the future and that the transportation activities carried out in medium and short distances will become more valuable with companies that tend to more than one type of transportation.
