“With the coronavirus epidemic, the need for respiratory physiotherapy has increased”
Giving information about respiratory physiotherapy, Physiotherapist Lecturer from Istanbul Gelişim University. See. Tuğçe Bilgiç said, “In the treatment that we can call respiratory rehabilitation or pulmonary rehabilitation, in addition to standard medical treatment, there are methods applied by physiotherapists for resistant symptoms such as dyspnea, which is also seen in Kovid-19. At this point, improving the physical condition of the patient, reducing the symptoms, providing correct and effective breathing training and therefore increasing the quality of life are the main goals.
“EVEN A SMALL EFFORT CAN Aggravate SYMPTOMS”
Stating that most of the patients have limited movements due to shortness of breath, Bilgiç said, “Even a small effort can worsen the symptoms. For these reasons, respiratory rehabilitation is a comprehensive intervention that requires the planning and implementation of multidisciplinary treatment methods for Covid-19 patients who continue to be treated at home or in the hospital today.
"ADDITION TO RESPIRATORY DEVICE CAN BE A ISSUE"
Sharing the knowledge that about 80 percent of Kovid-19 cases progress with mild and moderate symptoms without pneumonia (pneumonia/lung inflammation), Bilgiç said, “According to studies, the disease manifests itself as severe in approximately 14% of pneumonia patients. In 5% of cases, acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS), multi-organ dysfunction/failure and/or septic shock develops. Especially in this group, the symptoms are getting worse and there may be dependence on respirators.
