Why is family involvement important in distance education?
On the importance of family involvement in distance education, Dr. Instructor Member Derya Kavgaoğlu made statements. Drawing attention to the importance of collective impact in preventing learning losses, Dr. from Istanbul Gelişim University. Instructor Member Derya Kavgaoğlu said, “Especially the organization of financial resources and the lack of physical infrastructure require intervention at the political and socio-economic level. Ethical and social responsibility that policy makers, especially education faculties of universities, project coordinators and capital owners will feel, will add value and strength to their cooperation and development processes for social benefit.”
“SOCIAL SUPPORT IS ESSENTIAL”
Making recommendations for minimizing learning losses, Kavgaoğlu said, “There are points where students, who are final consumers, teachers who interact with them, and most importantly, families can directly intervene in the system within their sphere of influence. “Family participation”, which can be defined as a set of activities organized for parents to support their children's education and development, plays a critical role at this point. Because such participation requires the conscious involvement of the family in the education of the child and is a process that maximizes the benefit of all education stakeholders, especially the child. Such social support is essential for basic education students who experience virtual classrooms, especially after the pandemic, while they have not yet gained internal control.”
