Ships Low Emissions Cycle Is Coming

For the future of the world, emission rates need to be brought under control. When it comes to emission rates, the first thing that comes to mind is diesel-fueled vehicles. One of the areas where diesel fuel is used the most is the maritime sector. Reducing emission rates in shipping is not easy. However, a newly developed system is promising. The first test voyage was made for a cargo ship that was about 10 stories tall and supported by very stiff sails. The ship uses sails called WindWings. As the pioneer of the sector, the ship, which reduced the use of fuel, was built to reduce emission rates. Net zero emissions for 2050 are at the top of the goals of the developers of sail components. With the development of this technology, it is predicted that there will be a 30% decarbonization, especially for cargo ships. The one tested on the cargo ship Pyxis Ocean has two sails of 37.5 meters in length. Sails made with the material used in wind turbines can be placed on the decks of ships. It will also be able to offer an option for reducing the environmental impact of old ships. For the technology that carried out its first test, the tests are used on the ship that makes the China-Brazil voyage.

With the meeting held in July for the maritime sector, they agreed to reduce emissions to net zero for 2050. All these efforts aim to keep the warming caused by global warming at 1.5 degrees Celsius. Thanks to wind energy, these goals are not impossible, of course, but they will not be easy. Currently, less than 100 ships comply with zero-emission rules. Considering this situation, there is a great road to be taken for maritime.
