First Offshore Hydrogen Production Facility
Hydrogen production facilities continue to be established in coastal areas. The offshore hydrogen production facility, a first in the world, was established off the coast of Le Croisic, France. The plant was subjected to extensive tests before starting operation. Having successfully completed the tests, the facility was towed to the open sea to start production. After a very short time, such as 48 hours, after the opening, the facility was activated for production and its connection to the grid was realized.
In order for our world to remain livable for many years, we need to leave fossil fuels in the past. An energy source such as hydrogen is a critical option for our future. Of course, the energy required in terms of sustainability is quite large. We are far from producing green hydrogen in such large quantities.
By 2021, Lhyfe had activated the first hydrogen production facility to operate the facility, powered by wind farms. It has been 2 years since this process and now they are continuing their success by commissioning this new offshore facility.
The offshore facility, called Sealhyfe, is the product of a several-year-old project. Lhyfe received the 1MW electrolyzer in a short period of 16 months, and it was approved after a test period of 8 months. In order to manage this process, the company will manage the platform autonomously and remotely.
The facility, which also produced its first hydrogen, was pulled back to the dock for tests. Production will resume after additional tests. The facility will produce up to 4 tons of hydrogen as a result of its full capacity operation and will be transported to land via a pipeline.
