 Domestic and national flying car tusi test drives started




The domestic flying car "Tusi", named after Nasiruddin Tusi, one of the important Islamic scientists of the 13th century and developed by the Mechatronics Department of Istanbul Gelişim University, has started test drives.

With the developing technology, there are many developments that cars will travel both on land and in the air in the future. In this sense, along with the technological infrastructure, many institutions and organizations continue their work and create examples. Istanbul Gelisim University Mechatronics Department has been working for years to keep up with the developments in the world and to support the national flying car technology in Turkey. The flying car Tusi, which first met with technology lovers at TEKNOFEST in 2019 and received great acclaim, started its test drives this year as well. The vehicle, which successfully completed the indoor test drives, made the open field test drive at Başakşehir Şehit Erdem Özçelik Stadium. Saying that they will continue all the necessary work for the vehicle after the test drives, Mechatronics Department Instructor Umut Us said, "After our trials, we will start more ambitious flight tests."
“WE GET THE RESULTS WE WANT”
Providing detailed information about Tusi and also an R&D Engineer at the University's Technology Transfer Office, Umut Us said, "The vehicle is currently based on a 6-engine hexacopter infrastructure and its current weight is 100 kilos and can carry a person of 80 kilos. In terms of flight range, it has a range of 30 kilometers in the air and 160 kilometers on land. It is electrically powered and can fly for 8-9 minutes with a thrust value of approximately 180 kilos after a 2--2.30 hour charge. Currently, our test flights take place around 10 meters. When we go above a certain limit, the wind resistance in the air comes into play. Since it is the first prototype, I can say that it is sufficient for us. When we take these as a basis, we achieve the results we want.”
