Turkey will Need 25 Million M2 Additional Storage Areas in The Followıng 5 Years

If institutional measures are not taken, planned, and organized very quickly and urgently, our country will experience an important warehouse crisis. E-commerce, which is rising and globalizing as fast as possible, increases the need for storage areas for remote consolidated activities.

In our country, where almost 95 million people continue to live together with immigrants, the registered storage area is not even 20 million square meters. 12 million square meters of this is located around Kocaeli, Istanbul, and Çatalca. Therefore, there is not even 0.5 m2 of storage space per person in our country. In the next 5 years, 25 million m2 of additional storage space will be needed.

With the experience of Akın Arslan, the founder of Tırport, one of the world's leading logistics technologies, his intelligence and leadership in the business field, and the collective wisdom and power partnership of Oruç Kaya, one of our country's leading experts in warehousing, the digital smart storage platform DepOrtak was created in March. With the technology it has, DepOrtak develops extremely ambitious solutions that will make a difference not only in our country but also in Europe.

Oruç Kaya, one of the founding partners of DepOrtak, made the following statements on the subject: ‘’ Our country is the most suitable country to become a supply chain country, especially in Europe. Accordingly, the need for storage space will arise much more in Turkey. Our country is in the position of a production (NearShore) country in Europe. Another factor that will increase the storage space requirement is that e-commerce is growing faster than anticipated. Along with the e-commerce volume, the number of users and the number of establishments that make sales through e-commerce are also increasing. For example, looking at the data obtained from the e-Commerce Information Platform; The e-commerce volume, was 136 Billion TL in 2019, the number of orders of 1.3 billion, and the number of 68,457 companies increased to a volume of 800 Billion TL, 4.8 billion orders, and 548,688 establishments in 2022. Almost half of the ordered products are within the scope of products that require storage space’’.
