Tolerance Gets Difficult at Border Gates

Tolerance at Border Gates Gets Harder The waiting times at the border gates due to the war between Russia and Ukraine adversely affected the rise in transit and export operations on the Turkish line. At the Hamzabeyli and Kapıkule border gates in Edirne, which have an important role in Turkey's opening to Europe, waiting times of almost 100 hours, together with the queues of trucks up to 25 km, hinder the impact of the rise Turkey has achieved in the field of logistics. Ayşem Ulusoy, who is the Chairman of the Board of UTIKAD, underlined the signs of recession in the global economy, especially by pointing out the truck queues that have formed recently at the Kapıkule border gate, and stated that the opportunities we have achieved in both exports and logistics cannot be adequately evaluated due to these developments. In addition, Ulusoy said, “In this period, when global economies have negatively indicated their growth forecasts for 2023, and due to the rise in inflation, large economies are faced with an increasing pressure on their purchasing capacity, it is unacceptable that the current demands cannot be met in a timely manner due to the queues formed at the border gates.” said. Stating that the truck drivers were also negatively affected by the queues at the border gates, Ulusoy said, “AFAD provided food aid to the truck drivers who had to wait at the border gates due to the difficult conditions they experienced. Now this situation has become inhumane. While the waiting times at the border gates reached almost 90-100 hours, the number of vehicles reached around 1500. We are also afraid that truck drivers will quit their jobs due to these increasingly difficult conditions.”
