On February 6, 2023, the earthquakes, which affected about 10 provinces in and around Kahramanmaraş and were expressed as the disaster of the century, caused great destruction. After the disaster, IMEAK Chamber of Shipping, like many other institutions, mobilized to heal the wounds of the region. The aid materials collected as a result of the aid activities initiated by the organization of AFAD, Istanbul Governorship and TOBB (The Union of Chambers and Commodity Exchanges of Turkey) were delivered to the disaster victims in the earthquake-affected regions in the fastest way from the provincial and district centers of the Chamber of Shipping, both in Istanbul and outside of Istanbul. 23 trucks containing materials for basic consumption such as generators, sleeping bags, powerbanks, containers, blankets, water, stoves, batteries, baby items, clothes and food were sent to Kahramanmaraş and Hatay. The distribution of these supplies to the disaster victims is carried out by the local authorities in the earthquake zone and the organization of AFAD. With the contribution of the Chamber of Shipping, a soup kitchen was established to provide food service to the earthquake victims in the region, and 32 tons of food items that the soup kitchen would need were delivered to the region. With these materials, the soup kitchen will be able to serve approximately 500 people in the morning, lunch and evening for approximately 20 days. 1000 pieces of bread will be distributed daily in the soup kitchen. In addition to these, the Earthquake Assistance Ship, organized in partnership with the Antalya branches of IMEAK Chamber of Shipping and QTerminals, will be connected to the Hatay Sea Buses Pier (HADO) located in the Maden Fisherman's Shelter in the Arsuz district of Hatay, to provide accommodation and food for the earthquake victims in the region. It also distributes aids other than these.
