Tiktok's New York Office Captures the Spirit of the City with its Design

TikTok's Manhattan Midtown office in New York is designed by "Gensler" to fit the spirit of the city.

When TikTok came to Los Angeles in 2019, it had the title of the most downloaded application in the world. The company, which has expanded to Manhattan in the same way this year, has allocated the top five floors of 14,000 square meters in the 58-floor H&M building for a thousand employees. The office was designed by Gensler's director of design and senior partner Chris Mitchell. The office located on the west coast seems to have adopted a design approach to match the spirit of the city.

While neon lights, which are seen in abundance in Los Angeles, reflect the playful identity of the elevator lobbies, colorful LED panels are used to represent pizza, yellow taxis and the Statue of Liberty. In addition, images of the city are also included in these areas. In the cafe area design, the metro map of the city is abstracted with LED tubes. There is a reference to "Spider-Man" with the climbing ropes used behind the buffet counter. Saying that it was inspired by "Spider-Man's successful scaling of tall buildings," Mitchell adds, "The board room is set up as a circular space in a square building," and he states that that room is an ingenious reminder of James Turrell's work. It is possible to watch the important structures of the city from many balconies from the point where the office is located. These include the Empire State Building and the Statue of Liberty.
