The restoration project of the Büyükada Greek Orphanage, which was the largest wooden structure in Europe at the time it was built, was approved by the Board of Monuments.
The building, which was built as the Prinkipo Palace Hotel in 1898 by the architect Alexander Vallaury, was bought in the early 1900s, as license was not granted, and donated to the Fener Greek Orthodox Patriarchate to be built as an orphanage.
The historical building, which has been derelict since 1964 and entry is not allowed due to the risk of collapse, is selected by Europa Nostra, affiliated to the European Union, in 2018 as one of the 7 structures in the world that should be protected. The surveying and digital documentation works of the orphanage, which consists of 3 parts with the main and side sections, have been carried out by BİMTAŞ, a subsidiary of İstanbul Metropolitan Municipality.
