Buyukada Trip with Our Students
“Buyukada Trip” was held with the students of the Interior Design Program on May 23.
Lect. Rabia Sevda DEMİRKOL, the program head, participated in the trip organized by Lect. Dr. Nuran ÖZTÜRK and Lect. Hülya ALGUR MARŞOĞLU.
Büyükada, which was used as a place of exile by Byzantium for about seven centuries, passed under the Ottoman rule with the conquest of Istanbul. In 1908, Abdulhamid II placed some state officials on the island and ensured the development of the island. After this period, mansions were built. The island offers very rich examples of mansions.
The trip started from the Hamidiye Mosque. After talking about the architectural features of the mosque and the details of the ampere facade, the Greek Orphanage was visited. The orphanage, which was the largest wooden structure of its period, is now in ruins. After the orphanage, the Aya Yorgi Church was visited. During the trip, students had the opportunity to examine examples of civil architecture with different facade styles. The island, which has a very rich variety in terms of diversity, is an open-air museum.
Not only it was a very instructive trip for our students, but they also had the opportunity to relieve themselves before the exam. We would like to thank our dear students and valuable teachers for their participation.
