Organized by İKSV with the sponsorship of Koç Holding, the biennial will take place between 17 September and 20 November 2022.
This year, the 17th Istanbul Biennial will go beyond the usual and spread to dozens of different venues, including bookstores, second-hand booksellers, hospitals, nursing homes, cafes, metro stops and a private radio station. In addition, a calligraphy and bookbinding workshop, a fifteenth-century Turkish bath, a disused Greek school, and an art space established by immigrant artists will be among the biennial venues.
The 17th Istanbul Biennial, which was postponed for a year due to the pandemic, was curated by Ute Meta Bauer, Amar Kanwar and David Teh. The curators, who thought that the biennial, which was prepared under the conditions of the pandemic, should go beyond the patterns from the past in every sense, focused on a long-term transformation and creation process instead of determining a theme or title for the exhibition.
