With the law that entered into force on September 09, 1999, the Social Insurance Institution (SSK), the Pension Fund, or the Tradesmen and Craftsmen and Other Independent Employees Social Insurance Institution (BAĞKUR) are required to pay the premiums required for the retirement of employees who have social insurance and continue to work in this way. The conditions regulating the day and insurance period conditions were aggravated, and in this context, the age requirement for retirement was increased. Thus, some of the people who were insured before the law became unable to retire due to their age, even if they met the conditions for the number of premium days and the insurance period. At that time, this age requirement, which was aggravated and changed, was abolished with the law that entered into force on March 03, 2023. Thus, the right to retire was given back to those whose insurance start date was 08 September 1999 and before, who had completed the number of premium days required for retirement and the period of being insured but could not retire only because of their age.
With the said amendment, 4.8 million people have been granted the right to retire immediately, and 200 thousand of people have been granted the right to retire after using their right to borrow money for reasons such as military service, birth, etc. Those who used these rights and applied began to receive their first pensions.
Currently, there is a number of premium days, insurance period, and age requirements for retirement. Those who are Aged at Retirement (EYT), on the other hand, will be able to retire regardless of age if they fulfill the first two conditions (number of premium days and insurance period) or when they fulfill them. While these conditions are 5000 premium days for SSK members and 20 years for women and 25 years for men, they apply as 20 full years (7200 premium days) for women and 25 full years (9000 premium days) for men for BAĞKUR and Retirement Fund members.
