 2023 Wage Increase Expected 61 Percent


Global human resources and management consultancy firm Mercer has announced the results of its '2023 Wages and Benefits Survey'. According to the results of the research, in which a total of 489 companies from different sectors from Turkey participated, the average wage increase rate to be made in January 2023 was 43 percent, while the total increase planned for the whole year was determined as 61 percent on average. The rate of companies that plan to increase their wages in January is 85 percent. 53 percent of the companies aim to increase their wages once a year, 42 percent twice, and 5 percent three or more.


The sectors that plan the highest increase for 2023 are the automotive main industry with an average of 70.5 percent, energy with an average of 68.6%, production with an average of 67.3 percent, the automotive supply industry with an average of 67.1 percent and an average of 66.8 percent. mining and metal industries.

According to Mercer's research; The rate of companies that realized additional wage increases in 2022 was 96 percent. In addition, 31 percent of companies increased their wages at least twice in 2022. In 2021, the rate of companies that realized additional wage increases in Turkey was 35%. Including additional increases in 2021, average market progress across all industries reaches 105 percent.

According to the results of the research; In 2022, companies increased their frequently used fringe benefits such as meal and roadside assistance, which were updated once a year in the past years, 2 or 3 times in 2022. Among all companies, daily meal vouchers increased to 84 TL on average, and daily road transportation allowances to 51 TL on average. Against the current market conditions, companies have increased the variety of fringe benefits they provide to their employees. Among these, the transition to flexible fringe benefits and more frequently applied spot bonuses were prominent applications. In addition to the fringe benefits provided within the framework of welfare and comfort practices (psychologist, dietitian, sports club memberships, etc.), it is observed that long-term incentive practices provided especially for information technology roles have increased.
