 Foreign Trade Deficit Increases




In May, the foreign trade deficit was 12.7 billion in double digits. In the first 5 months of the year, the foreign trade deficit reached 56 billion dollars.
TR. Foreign trade data for May 2023 was announced by the Ministry of Commerce. According to the data of the Ministry of Commerce, while imports increased by 16 percent to 34.3 billion dollars in May, exports increased by 14.4 percent year on year to 21.7 billion dollars. While the foreign trade volume increased by 15.3 percent and became 55 billion 963 million dollars, the foreign trade deficit increased by 19 percent to 12.7 billion dollars in May.
Compared to the January-May period of 2022, in the January-May period of 2023, imports increased by 8.9% and became 158 billion 625 million dollars, while exports increased by 0.2% and followed a horizontal course as 102 billion 521 million dollars. its volume increased by 5.3 percent and was announced as 261 billion 146 million dollars.
In May, the profile of the countries with intense commercial relations in foreign trade did not change, and the countries with the highest exports were; While Germany, the USA, England, Iraq, and Spain the countries that import the most, respectively; It was announced that the Russian Federation, China, Germany, the United Arab Emirates and the United States of America.
In May 2023, the items constituting exports by sectors are respectively; Manufacturing Industry Agriculture, Forestry and Fishing sector, Mining and Quarrying sector, while import items are respectively; Manufacturing Industry, Mining and Quarrying sector, Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries sectors were announced.
