Competitive Chance of Exporters Is Negatively Affected by Cost Increases

The Economic Situation and Expectation Report 2023, prepared with the contributions of Eskişehir Chamber of Industry (ESO) member companies, professional committees, and council members, has been published. The content of the report consists of six main headings: access to finance, economic expectations, export infrastructure, qualified human resources, and legislation. The problems and solution proposals gathered under these six main headings were included in the relevant report.
In the statement made by Eskişehir Chamber of Industry Board Chairman Celalettin Kesikbaş regarding the report, it was stated that industrialists work very hard to increase production, contribute positively to employment and increase exports, but energy, inflation, cost, and raw material increases negatively affect competitiveness.
It was emphasized that the retail sector expects support, that many inputs such as raw material supply and energy costs are not affected by the exchange rate, new purchasing methods are provided with new financing techniques, and that exporters and manufacturers expect to continue exports without interruption and to ensure competitiveness. It was stated by Kesikbaş that the economic developments experienced led the manufacturers to export, but this situation had negative reflections on the domestic market.
Emphasizing the necessity of supporting business areas related to agriculture and service, especially the retail sector, to ensure a competitive environment and price stability, it was stated that there are many industrialists engaged in production in these sectors.
It was stated that the inflation differences applied especially in long-term contracts with the public sector were far below the actual inflation rates and that escalation demanded the difference that caused damage to the contractor companies.
