What Does Iron Absorption Depend On?


Iron, iodine, fluoride and selenium are the most important elements for our body. Even in small amounts, the body has basic, structural and regulatory functions. Iron is especially vital. Because iron is necessary for hemoglobin, which is responsible for transporting oxygen to different parts of the body. In addition, it plays a role in the synthesis of myoglobin, which is responsible for growth, development and also storing and regulating oxygen in the muscles.

What Kind of Foods Is Iron Included?
 
Iron contains both plant and animal sourced foods, but especially products such as meat, fish, chicken are rich in iron and are easier to absorb by the body than plant-based products.

Does Iron React When Consumed With Different Food Combinations?
 
Consuming foods together may have a synergistic effect in some cases, and sometimes loss of nutritional values may occur. For example, when spinach and yogurt are consumed together, we can say that this has a negative effect on calcium absorption. It is recommended that we do not consume tea or coffee after or with the meal, which we often hear among the public. Tea has positive effects on human health due to its polyphenols and antioxidant properties. However, it also suppresses the absorption of elements such as iron. Therefore, when consuming foods, an optimum combination should be chosen, taking into account the bioavailability. For example, while consuming animal foods, a balance can be achieved by consuming foods or beverages rich in vitamin C.
